Our Favorite Dancing With The Stars Routines of All Time

A good dance routine stays with you—the wardrobe, music, special effects, and most importantly, the moves. All of it can make you feel things over and over as you relive that special moment.

These are the reasons we love watching Dancing with the Stars. It gives us entertainment and emotion weekly through dance.

Just in case you’ve been living under a rock, Dancing with the Stars—commonly referred to as DWTS—is a dance competition show where celebrities are paired with professional dancers to compete in various dance styles including Freestyle, Contemporary, Salsa, Samba, Paso Doble, and more. Dancers compete for judges’ points and audience votes.

Relive some of our favorite dancing moments as we share our all-time favorite “Dancing with the Stars” routines.

Waltz: Simone Biles and Sasha Farber, Season 24

Five-time Olympic medalist Simone Biles is a natural on the dance floor. Her athletic ability easily carries over from gymnastics to dance. In this Waltz with dancer Sasha Farber, Biles leaves her heart out on the floor, just like she did at each Olympic performance. It’s the reason we loved her then, and now. This dance tells the story of how Biles was placed in foster care and later adopted as a child. This routine reminds us of one of the many reasons we love dance—it tells real stories without needing any words.

Salsa: Gilles Marini and Cheryl Burke, Season 8

You might recognize Marini from the Sex and the City movie as Samantha Jones’s attractive neighbor. He is already a pillar of sex appeal. Now, pair him with Cheryl Burke and get them dancing Salsa, and…well, it’s getting hot in here. When Marini and Burke danced this routine in Season 8, it was a little bit of smooth, a lot of shakin’ and a whole lot of sexy. Salsa is one of our favorite dances to teach because it’s exciting and fast and creates a rhythmic, sexy experience. Marini and Burke do just that in this number.

Samba: Rumer Willis and Val Chmerkovskiy,, Season 20

Not everyone could pull of this unconventional dance to Poor Unfortunate Souls, but that is why we love it! Different dance types fit different personalities and Rumer Willis and Val Chmerkovskiy’s creative Samba to the Disney song is proof of that. Everything about the dance is unforgettable, from the stage setup to the choreography. And who knew Ursula from The Little Mermaid could be so sexy?

Freestyle: Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough, Season 21

Try to keep a dry eye as you watch Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough’s Freestyle routine to Footprints in the Sand. Not only is Irwin so darn likable, but her tribute to her late father Steve Irwin is stunning. The pair glide across the floor like butter, moving with elegance and grace. Everything about this number is perfection.

Argentine Tango: Jana Kramer and Gleb Savchenko, Season 23

Anytime a dance routine begins in a bed and ends in a shower, you know it’s going to be hot, hot, hot. The super provocative performance earned the pair perfect scores from all the judges and may have set the record for “hottest Argentine Tango”, according to judge Julianne Hough. The Argentine Tango is all about chemistry and choreography and these two nailed them both in this routine.

Season 26 of DWTS recently started and we are cheering along the dancers and their celebrity partners (this time, athletes). We can’t wait to see what dance routines will come out of this season and become our new favorites.
